Tiger Kart Club 'Have A Go' Report November 2011 from Sean Phillips

Thu Dec 1, 2011

On the weekend the TKC hosted the "Have a Go" open meeting and by all accounts it was a great success.

Realizing that racing is winding down this time of year we decided to make this years open a more inviting event for everyone. To spice things up racing was held over 3 rounds with each round on a different track and the normal 1st, 2nd and 3rd trophies were also forgone and replaced with random draw prizes all day. The main feature though was the "have a go" sessions between each round of racing where family and friends can try out your kart, as expected this proved to be the most popular part of the day.

Over 40 prospective karters got to have a go and by the looks of the smiles on their faces they certainly enjoyed themselves. Special mention to Desiree Harrington and Renee Summerfield who both help out at almost every kart meeting getting to have a run around and also our club stalwarts John Wishart (President) and Greg Adams (VP Cockburn track) busting out some moves as well. These kinds of events not only introduce new people to our great sport but also gives people within the sport who often can't race because their busy running the events a chance to have a go too. Based on the success of this year's event we hope to further promote next years "have a go" meeting and turn it into a real fun event to finish off the Karting year in WA.

The racing itself was also spectacular and with the final round being raced on the high speed Tri Oval track some of the NASCAR style maneuvers had to be seen to be believed!! Congratulations to the winners Bart Horsten (Midgets), Aidan Read (Rookies), Jason Betts (Jnr Comb), Peter Biancucci (125R), Michael Clark (SN), Vaughn Brewer (SP100), Ron Vandermeulen (SP100H), Chris Ellyard (125) and also congratulations to all those that won something in the draw like Joe Galipo who won a $900 hotel voucher courtesy of Ian Love at Coco's Restaurant.

Thanks go out to all the volunteers who did everything so well and made the meeting run like clockwork and particular thanks to Paul Brophy (VP Wanneroo Track) who came up with the whole concept of the event, the organization and the prizes that made the day such an event to remember, well done Paul for such a great job.
